Note to authors

Article submission

Proposals and manuscripts of articles, notes and reviews should be sent by email to the Editorial Secretariat of Espace Populations Sociétés eps-revue@univ-lille.fr

The submission consists of the following elements: on the one hand, an anonymized PDF file that gathers the text of the article and all the illustrations in the final form of the article; on the other hand, all the native files of the article (text and figures/documents).

All authors agree not to withdraw their text and not to submit it to another publication during the period between its acceptance by the Editorial Board and its publication. Any submission of an article implies that the authors authorize the journal Espace Populations Sociétés to publish their manuscript and that it is an original text.

There are no publication fees charged by the journal. Authors are not paid in any way. The time lapse between the submission of an article and its publication is generally one year if it is part of a thematic issue.

Space, Populations, Societies is made available under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. The authors retain the scientific property of their writings. After publication, quotations and partial reproductions are, of course, permitted. However, authors cannot publish their entire article on any other site or medium, except on open archive sites (e.g. HAL-SHS), as opposed to Researchgate which is not an open archive, but a private commercial site. The articles and notes published by Espace Populations Sociétés are the sole responsibility of their authors.

The evaluation of articles

All manuscripts are submitted anonymously to two readers by the Chairman of the Editorial Board (double-blind evaluation). Their observations and those of the Editorial Board are transmitted to the authors. The Editorial Board reserves the right to make minor editorial changes. Articles must correspond to the editorial policy of the journal as defined by the first issue of Espace Populations Sociétés (1983-1).

In all cases, articles must deal with either populations or societies according to a spatial approach and must be accompanied by a detailed methodology.

Presentation standards

Proposals for articles must be at least 1600 characters long (including blanks). No article should exceed 45,000 characters including notes, bibliography and illustrations. The figures will be provided, by e-mail, in the native format in which they were created.

Texts

Articles must be submitted (by e-mail) in French or/and English, with abstracts and keywords in both languages and the translation of the title in French for articles in English, in English for articles in French. The authors commit themselves to send their text in a correct French or English. The members of the editorial committee cannot in any case ensure the rewriting, in whole or in part, of a text. A poor quality of writing constitutes in itself a reason for refusing to publish an article, whatever its intrinsic scientific quality.

The contact details of all authors (surname, first name, position, e-mail address, professional address) must be mentioned.

Do not use tabs, spaces or page breaks, they will disappear when the article is put online.

Quotations are indicated in French quotation marks and in italics. Citations are referenced directly in the text and not by footnote. A citation ends with a bracket indicating the author and year, e.g. [Matanle, Rausch et al., 2011].

Footnotes are found at the bottom of the page with a call for notes in the text.

Bibliographic references

The references consist of all the documents explicitly mentioned in the text (with or without excerpts), and only these. It is important that these references are complete, according to the standards specified below (Zotero style available for download at the bottom of the page).

Figures

The documents must be original. If not, the author must ensure that they are free of rights or that he/she has the authorization to use them.

Graphics and maps must be provided in separate native files (ai, eps, tiff, jpeg (saved in maximum quality) ...). Color images must be in RGB mode, not CMYK, and have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

Tables should preferably be provided in spreadsheet format (Excel or other).

Documents must not be integrated into the text, only their location must be indicated (it may be slightly modified due to publication constraints).

The documents must be numbered, don't forget to check that the references quoted in the body of the text correspond to the numbering of the illustrations.

Each document must include :

- a title (including the date)

- a source

- a legend (optional)

- an orientation and a scale (for maps)
